A spirituality book that has become famous in recent years for it's simple, yet important, message that has helped many is

The Power of NOW by Eckhart Tolle

It's long title is The Power of Now: A Guide to Spiritual Enlightenment.  First published in 2004, some have called this "the book of a generation" while others have labeled it pure rubbish.  I, for one, think it's a great book and have nothing against Tolle whatsoever.  If I had read this before I got sober, I probably would not have understood any of it, thought the guy was a fraud, and hated the metaphors used in his teachings.  Since I did read it shortly after I got sober, I found it pretty darn helpful and it served to solidify for me the things that I was trying to do, such as live one day at a time, let go of past hurts and stop stressing over the future.  This is what the book is about and seeks to "enlighten".

Time isn’t precious at all, because it is an illusion. What you perceive as precious is not time but the one point that is out of time: the Now. That is precious indeed. The more you are focused on time—past and future—the more you miss the Now, the most precious thing there is.” - The Power of NOW, Eckhart Tolle

Tolle uses simple and common language in his books that doesn't speak above the reader and makes the material accessible to anyone.  If you go into reading The Power of Now with an analytical mind, you will probably be disappointed.    If you go into the experience with an open mind and the willingness to believe that there is more available to you in this life than what you are currently experiencing, you will likely get a lot out of it and come away closer to that spiritual awakening or "other plane".  You can find The Power of Now book here:
