If you are hell bent on the idea that you can detox from alcohol and drugs at home, check out

Safely Detox from Alcohol and Drugs at Home by Taite Adams

It's long title is Safely Detox from Alcohol and Drugs at Home: How to Stop Drinking and Beat Addiction.  There aren't any other books like this on the market that cover the plethora of drugs, including alcohol, that people insist on trying to detox at home from.  While some of these home detoxes are not recommended for a variety of reasons, people do it anyway and knowledge is power.

First published in 2013, Adams book is the #1 Selling book on Amazon's for search terms such as "detox from alcohol" and "detox from drugs", and for good reason.  The book is very thorough and starts where it should, with some self-examination and preparation.  There are considerations and discussions on tapering, dealing with cravings and getting rid of your supply (and suppliers) before you even begin.  As many people are addicted to more than one substance or have co-occuring issues, this is also discussed multiple times in the book.  There are chapters on every type of legal and illegal substance that may encounter a detox: from alcohol to opiates to marijuana and GHB.  With reviews such as "Well Worth it", "Informative", and "Well written. Cuts to the chase. "

This is an extremely informative read. I feel allot better now helping a friend detox off of alcohol. I never thought of things like their diet, and what to plan for after the detox. This book has eased a great load off of my shoulders.

We agree.  In fact, Safely Detox from Alcohol and Drugs at Home doesn't stop with the detox.  Author Taite Adams has been in recovery for more than 12 years and seems to know that there is a lot more to getting clean and sober than just getting rid of the booze and drugs.  There are chapters in the book that discuss treatment options and the importance of ongoing support on the road to recovery. There is also a great list of helpful resources in the last part of the book.  We recommend this one as a top pick if you need to detox from alcohol or drugs and want to give it a shot at home or have a loved one in this situation.
